Diet Tips to Prevent Dental Problems in Children

  1. Take Balanced Diet: Take balanced meal with plenty of calcium,  Vitamin D to build strong teeth and keep gums and mouth tissues healthy.
  2. Avoid Sugary Foods: All sugars promote bacterial growth in the mouth that forms acid and results in tooth decay.
  3. Avoid sodas and sweetened juice drinks,  candies, cookies and cakes, honey, maple syrup and other unrefined sugars these causes tooth decay.
  4. Low-fat choices like fresh fruits, raw vegetables,  bread and whole grain crackers are smart choices.Raw carrot, celery, cauliflower,  green beans, and peas are good to have.(Crisp Veggies are ” chewing foods ” that mechanically clean your child’s teeth and gums.)
  5. Vitamin C rich fruits like oranges, lime, papaya, kiwi, cantaloupe, and strawberries help in killing unwanted bacteria which can cause gingivitis. According to dentists, kids should wait at least 30 minutes before brushing their teeth after having citrus foods or drinks.
  6. Sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds contain natural fats that coat teeth and help shield against bacteria. (The oils in the seeds help strengthen enamel, making teeth more resistant to cavities.)
